An staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie was arrested last Monday dawn by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) over his alleged posting of a doctored sex photo of President John Maham on his facebook wall.

Mr. Wadie was picked up by the BNI soon as he touched down at the Kotoko International Airport upon his return from a short trip to the United Kingdom (UK) obviously to answer questions on the photo which portrayed President John Mahama as having sex with a woman in an office.

In a previous interview on Radio Gold last Wednesday 22nd May 2013, Mr. Wadie admitted posting the photo on his wall which went viral on facebook but denied being the originator or creator of the said photo.

It’s yet unclear as to what charges he is likely to face however, but the NPP’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyepong has already mounted a vigorous campaign on his facebook wall against the arrest of his compatriot.

The Assin North Central MP is said to have announced on his facebook wall that; “MICHAEL OMARI WADIE OF NPP HAS BEEN ARRESTED BY THE BNI. JOIN THE TEAM TO FREE HIM NOW”.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has also condemned the arrest of the former Ayawaso West Constituency Chairman of the NPP (Michael Omari Wadie) on Joy News Night yesterday describing it as unjust and unwarranted.

He asked rhetorically that “have the BNI gone to arrest all the other people who have been posting all kinds of negative and derogatory photos about Nana Addo Dankwa (NPP flagbearer)?,”… or perhaps it’s just a case of different strokes for different folks.

Meanwhile, some political commentators including the Editor-in-Chief of The New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. had earlier condemned the act describing it as a “dirty” and “crude” attempt to denigrate the person of President with the doctored picture.

Mr. Kweku Baako Jnr. made this coments on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Thursday May 23, 2013 but was quick to add that similar pictures circulating on social media websites and in news papers about the 2012 Presidential candidate of the main opposition NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Ablekuma West Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu are equally dirty and condemnable.

As of press time yesterday, family and party members were still at sea in their searching for the actual location where he(Omari Wadie) was being held by the BNI.
